HMS Beagle - 1:48th scale - Made for the Australian National Maritime
Museum.
HMS BEAGLE
This 1:48th scale Brig was be part of the 150th anniversary of the
publication of Charles Darwin’s
ground breaking book ‘On the Origin of Species by Natural Selection’
and the bicentenary of his birth.
Each boat on board was vacuum formed and then individually detailed
to exact historic accuracy.
The deck was individually planked with Australian Snowy pine, each
edge was then painted black to emulate the tarred
'corking' between the planks. I then airbrushed textures on the planking
to create a used look.
The Canonade on the fore deck.
The poop deck.
The model was made with no sails. This allowed the detail to be seen
more clearly and also I feel that
sails at this scale never look correct. In harbor the sails and it's
rigging where removed and the flag flown from the aft flagpole.

HMS Beagle
The rigging took me a whole month to complete alone.
